1967. The Vietnam War rages. As young Navy pilot Patrick Maguire takes a long-delayed vacation, sailing with his parents Michael and Joan across the Pacific Ocean, he drops a bomb on his parents: he hopes to avoid the conflict in Asia by entering NASA's fledgling astronaut program. His father is vehemently against it, but his mother understands her son needs to find his own path.

Distancing himself from the family drama below deck, Patrick witnesses a mysterious space capsule plunge into the ocean. He convinces his parents to turn the boat around, and race an oncoming storm in an attempt to aid the spacecraft's pilots. But while investigating the damaged capsule, Patrick's parents are taken prisoner by an extra-governmental military force that unexpectedly arrives on the scene, led by the menacing Director Greene.

Impersonating one of the soldiers, Patrick inserts himself into the heart of the high-tech warship in hopes of freeing his parents. Patrick's subterfuge uncovers the truth of the capsule's true mission: to explore a rift in time and space, a doorway to the realm of the Elder Gods. His cover blown when Michael is killed in an inhuman experiment, Patrick fights for Joan's life as he tries to prevent the evil cabal from achieving their ultimate goal: the overthrow of all humanity.

With a hurricane raging, his mother in peril, and the fate of mankind at stake, can Patrick stop Greene and his masters from destroying the world?
